Two Smithsonians, the National Archives Building, and cupcakes!

I keep failing to mention that the weather is still glorious!  So far, the mornings have been in the high 60's, with a really nice breeze.  Sort of too good to be true, since our days are fillled with lots of walking through a city that is normally very hot and humid this time of year.

Keith got up and went running this morning, and I took Saleen on a walk to a nearby trail through the woods.  It was really beautiful and lush.  It was sort of hard to believe that we were so close to downtown and yet in the woods.  Then we walked to the Metro, and met up with Elise in front of the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum.  Along the way, we were met with this:

FOOD TRUCKS!  We scanned their offerings as we walked by, making a mental note to possibly return to these later in the week.

We soon found Elise at the entrance, and went on in.  We started out on a walking tour of the highlights, and grew antysy as we had to stand still to listen to the tour guide, and we all felt we had way too much territory to cover to stand still.  So we left the group behind and struck out on our own.  It really is true what they say - this museum along would take a couple of days to go through.  It's HUGE!!!!  I will post a few pictures of my favorite things.  We did make sure to visit Keith's favorite plane, the P-51 Mustang.  He was happy.

After the Air & Space Museum, we went up the street, found a Chipotle's, and totally enjoyed devouring our way too large burritos and rice bowls with barbacoa.  I love that stuff!  Of course, after we were so stuffed, we had to go a few doors down to the Red Velvet Cupcakery, and they had gluten-free cupcakes, so all three of us got to enjoy!!!

After the feast, moved on to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History.  Unfortunately, the Dinosaur Hall was closed, but we saw the rest of it.  My favorite was the Geology Exhibit, where we fathered around the Hope Diamond, among many other amazing jewels.  Of course, we were quite proud to find a rather large exhibit from Arkansas:

We left the Museum of Natural History, and by this time, our feet were feeling pretty sore, so we went next door to the Sculpture Garden, where a lot of people were soaking their feet in the fountain, so we joined in.

After a nice break there, we joined Daniel (after he got off work) at Fuel Pizza, and got caught up on everyone's day.  On our way back home via the Metro, we stopped off at Carvel's, Keith's favorite childhood ice cream, and he totally indulged himself with some chocolate.  It was another perfect, but totally exhausting day.
