A movie and the National Portrait Gallery

This morning we tackled some much needed laundry, which is nice and convenient when you book accommodations with airbnb, because mostly you are sharing people's homes and have access to their laundry facilities. Lea and Mike, the young couple who are hosting us, have a full basement, and let me use their washer and dryer, so that was a big help.

Afterwards, we took Saleen on a walk and bought a few groceries at the neighborhood Whole Foods and Trader Joe's.  We then came back, finished laundry, and fixed lunch, before we headed out to meet Elise at a theatre in DC to watch Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.  We all really enjoyed it, especially in 3D.

(The Metro station this morning - pretty empty on the weekends))

The Smithsonian National Portrait Museum was just across the street from the cinema, so we visited there next.  Besides a nice collection of American Art, the main attraction is the many portraits of American presidents.  We spent quite a while browsing through, and really enjoyed the portraits, especially of George Washington and Lincoln.

The building had the most amazing courtyard in the middle of it!

Afterwards, we told Elise bye until tomorrow, and visited a gelato shop that we've been passing by on our walk home every night, and it was yummy!

(Street view from the doors of the museum)

This was pretty funny - it passed by us as we were walking home tonight. It's a trolley pub, and the patrons pedal it as they drink!

Today was sort of a rest day, which is good, because tomorrow we will see a lot!
